Yes, in a lot of ways, we live in a “nanny” state that wants to ensure that nothing we do or ever could do could harm us, even if by choice. However, all that being said, crash tests and the resulting changes in car design are amazing. This video is a great example of just how far automobiles have come in the past 50 years…

To celebrate the upcoming 3D re-release of the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 double feature, Disney is doing a seven part video feature with John Lasseter (here). Some of you who know me, know I love all things Pixar. John Lasseter is kind of a hero for me. He does what I wish I had been talented enough to do in life and he is unabashedly a grown kid. At the same time, he’s obviously a brilliant story teller and seems to be a truly kind hearted individual.
This first video has him explaining the new toys (which I HOPE to pick up as they look amazing) for the Toy Story series. They have a new Toy Story Collection that are supposed to be exact replicas of what the toys would really be. I’ve seen the Woody, Buzz, and Aliens and all three are VERY nicely detailed, but pricey. Still, I want to get them You could think from the video that he was just a shill trying to push the sale of the toys, but from everything I’ve seen, he’s being downright honest. He does seem to truly love the toys and hope people get the same enjoyment out of them.

The Avatar trailer looks nice, but will the story & acting be equal to the CG? James Cameron does have the talent to bring something amazing to the screen and the acting talent looks capable with Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi. There are of course other names, but these two seemed the most solid for me. I’m VERY hopeful, but you never know…
I loved this roast, but I’m not sure the subject matter entirely engaged the whole crowd at the Radio & TV Correspondents’ Dinner, but I found it engaging and hilarious. Anyone who can spend time with the President’s attention discussing Dune is great by me
I find the concept of Mountain Dew Game Fuel to be somewhat pathetic and patronizing, but it is advertising. The idea that gamers are somehow so different from the average cola drinker is ridiculous, but they obviously feel there is a market segment here dying to be pandered to. So normally this wouldn’t even be of any interest to me, but I found the commercial interesting as I enjoyed the image of two women changing into WoW characters and battling it out in a supermarket.
It looks like a developer may have sensed my love for battlemechs (ahhh…Battletech) and developed what looks to be a fun title for the iPhone. I’ll definitely have to pick iMech up, but I would suggest you go read all about it at Touch Arcade.
I loved the ‘V’ series back in the eighties. This video for the new series has some questionable special effects, but I know I’ll be glued to the TV when it comes on (at least for the first few eps)
