Best Buy stores only getting 4 Palm Pres for launch day? : Boy Genius Report.
Wow, if this rumor is true (which I somewhat doubt, but given Sprint/Palm’s track record is plausible) then the Pre is going to have one tough road. 4 per Best Buy, 2 per RadioShack? I’ve read the other rumors about supply issues, but are they real or is Palm/Sprint playing the Nintendo game of limiting supply to build demand?
I don’t think either company is in any position to risk this release, so for their sake I hope this isn’t true. They will already probably only have 2 days before being washed out in the Apple news tsunami that will likely be WWDC.
Interesting…it looks like the Fantastic Four franchise may be up for a reboot. The previous two films were both profitable, but ultimately, the word of mouth was fairly lousy. I think I am one of the few comic book fans that gave them a pass. Honestly, I could look past the warts and enjoy them as simple action/comedy fair and also simply enjoy seem these icons brought to the screen. All that said, with comic book adaptations taking on more serious/skilled attempts, this is likely a VERY good idea. I don’t think a third outing for this formula would fair well in the current movie ecosystem…

Green Lantern: No Fear - cover by Alex Ross
I just thought I would pass along some comic book movie rumors/news that I’ve seen in the past day or so…
I’ve never followed Jonah Hex that carefully, but I think the caustic western character from the comic could do well on the big screen (not that he would be the first of the type in the genre
). It looks like they’ve got Josh Brolin playing Hex and I think he could carry the role quite well. Green Lantern just floors me! This could be amazing or it could suck. I assuming this would be an origin story? There’s SO MUCH history to Green Lantern, but how will they handle it all?
- Which Green Lantern? Alan Scott (not likely), Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, or Kyle Rayner?
- How will they handle the special effects of the power ring? Will it be the original magical or the technological ring?
- Will the Green Lantern Corp. be featured?
- Will the Guardians play a role?
- Will Sinestro be the villain?
Ah…possibly a whole year and a half or so to consider, debate, and follow the developments just like the fan boy I am
According to the Pixar Blog and TheHDRoom, we’ll be seeing Monsters, Inc. and A Bug’s Life on Blu-ray on May 19th in advance of the theatrical release of Up. The cover mock-ups aren’t final yet, but the price seems a bit high to me. ~$40 is just asking a bit much for Blu-ray, but maybe not as I KNOW I will be buying them. Pixar movies just don’t seem to have an upper end for me, so maybe Disney/Pixar has targeted the perfect price?
In Beta 2 of iPhone OS 2.2, developers are finding that the following cool features are present, but may or may not see the light of day with this release:
- Google Street View
- E-mailing of current location
- Downloading of Podcasts
The last one is what caught my eye the most. I would LOVE to be able to download my podcasts directly on the iPhone as I would have much less reason to ever dock as I already get mail, calendar, contact changes via IMAP or push (well, push-y sync).
This would be a great feature and I hope they ship 2.2 with all of this enabled soon…

AT&T to Remain Sole US iPhone Carrier into 2010? – Mac Rumors
It looks like AT&T & Apple negotiated an extension of their exclusivity agreement in the US around the launch of the iPhone 3G. I’m not sure whether this is good news or not for anyone or not. I really can’t think of a US carrier that would treat us better as they all seem to be foul in their own special way. Verizon, Sprint, and Alltel (the first two of which I have tried) are based on CDMA which I dislike as it is US only. No one else is using it. However, as they switch to LTE in the future, maybe the value proposition will be better. T-Mobile is a non-starter as they don’t support much at all of NC and if anyone has a smaller 3G footprint than AT&T, it is T-Mobile. AT&T is the one GSM carrier left standing.
Now, if only they would learn to treat their paying customers better…

iPhone 3G firmware has FM radio support, FOTA – iPhone Atlas
Interesting rumor. I’m not sure I care that much about either (I’d much rather the iPhone work with my Nike+), but I imagine there are some people who would be thrilled by the FM support. OTA firmware updates could be useful, but I don’t mind connecting my iPhone daily to keep it charged.
iPhone Sensors and iChat VOIP Integration? – Mac Rumors
Interesting patent application that shows that Apple is looking for new ways to make the iPhone experience more natural based on actions, location of the phone, etc. I especially like the idea of transferring calls when docked to a VOIP-based iChat. I doubt we will see any of this in iPhone firmware 2.0. This is likely forward thinking for later this year or next (if at all).
Apple to Release an ‘iSight HD’? – Mac Rumors
Could we be getting a new iSight? The original Firewire-based model was quite good. I now have an iSight in my MacBook, but the thought of a true HD version of the iSight sounds quite intruiging…
More iPhone 3G tidbits trickling in: No Tethering, Upgrading Policy, 2nd Proximity Sensor & more – iPhone Hacks
It looks as if tethering will continue to be unsupported. My belief is that this is entirely AT&T’s doing. Unfortunately, I don’t believe this is likely to change in the near future. Now, on to some good news. It seems that upgrades should go smoothly and that the new 2 year contract will simply replace your old contract rather than add to it. I don’t know if this is specific to current iPhone owners or if it is true for all AT&T customers…
