Trialling socialthing!
March 23, 2008Thanks to Tanner’s kindness, I now am in the socialthing! private beta. So far, I like what I see. Hopefully, they will add more services soon and the iPhone interface is shaping up to be useful. I’ll have to keep my eye on this and possible try out some of the competition as well…
That being said, it now seems I also have two invites of my own to hand out, so please, let me know if you would like one by commenting on this post…
BTW, why is it that I can know “trialling” is a word, Mac OS X’s Dictionary app & Dashboard widget can know it is a word, but the built-in Mac OS X spell check can’t?

Social networking shouldn’t be this hard…
March 22, 2008Speaking of the iPhone…
I’m interested in getting more and more involved with social networking. I use Twitter currently (or try to remember to do so as often as possible). I also have Facebook setup to update status there to match Twitter, but that isn’t exactly how I would like it to work. Now I am investigating how to keep my life online up-to-date as easily as possible using the iPhone.
I currently use Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, in addition to my own blog. I used to use MySpace, but I simply cannot stand that service and cancelled my account. I want one place to update EVERYTHING. This leads me to the following services:
All of these services work towards allowing mass updating of social network sites. They also essentially want to aggregate updates for me. At this point, I’ve only investigated them as at least two are in private betas (you need a code). I’m sure I will dig further and try at least one of these out.
Just my opinion, but all of the social networking sites should come up with a common XML format to exchange data and easily allow users to post updates to many sites from any one. They shouldn’t be trying to lock me in, but rather convincing me to use their service based on their value-add and UI.
