Disney Previews Upcoming Platinum Blu-ray Title Plans | High-Def Digest
Disney has announced a slate of movies to build out its Platinum Blu-ray line: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, Pinocchio, and Beauty and the Beast. Also, the Pixar film Finding Nemo will be released in 2009 (it was originally to come out this fall). They didn’t announce a schedule or an order that the films will arrive, but as a whole, the group looks good.

Disney Planning ‘Sin City,’ ‘From Dusk ‘Til Dawn’ Blu-rays for October (UPDATED) | High-Def Digest
Yes, the story also mentions From Dusk ‘Til Dawn, but that was is definitely the less interesting title to me and the October date has changed to early 2009 in the updated story. I can’t wait to see Sin City in some truly high-def goodness. Seriously, this film rocks and I own the super-duper DVD set that has the extended cuts and I would still double-dip to get this one assuming the quality is BD-50 1080p with HD or lossless audio and the previous extras intact. It is just an amazing stylistic experience, but not for the squeamish.

Paramount Announces 2-Disc ‘Iron Man’ Blu-ray | High-Def Digest
Woot! It looks like my pre-order finally has a launch date of September 30th. I’m VERY much looking forward to picking this one up on Blu-ray and watching it a few more times in the first week!
Check out the excerpt of some of the features:
- BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.
- Disc one will include the six-part documentary “Hall of Armor: The Invincible Iron Man” plus deleted and extended scenes.
- Disc two includes an additional seven-part documentary “I Am Iron Man” and more…
Oh, yeah, there’s a couple of DVD releases as well, but…yeah…Blu-ray!

Watch the First Hulk vs. Wolverine Animated Trailer!

In January 2009, Hulk will be coming to Blu-ray/DVD in a two shot animated feature: Hulk vs. Thor and Hulk vs. Wolverine. If you follow the link, you will see a VERY short snippet that Marvel is calling a trailer. Nothing yet on Hulk vs. Thor, but I think both of these sound like a lot of fun and I know I’ll be adding the Blu-ray to my collection!

‘Christmas Story’ Blu-ray Double Dip Due In November | High-Def Digest
I am so glad that I didn’t re-buy the Blu-ray of A Christmas Story yet. I already own the 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD set and I had read that the Blu-ray wasn’t much of an improvement. It sounds as if Warner is looking to remedy that and bring some new stuff to the table. No idea what yet, but I would love the chance to pick up a high-quality Blu-ray of this movie as I do love it so!
So, start dreaming of your Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle and please try to avoid saying the “F-dash-dash-dash” word
oh…and of course…
Sons of bitches! Bumpuses!

Warner Bringing ‘L.A. Confidential’ to Blu-ray | High-Def Digest
Today saw the news that Warner is bring one of Heather & my favorite movies to Blu-ray this fall, L.A. Confidential. When we saw it, it was one of those nights at the movies when you don’t know what to expect. We came away enthralled by the scenary, acting, and just the feel of the movie. It did reasonably well at the box office, but, unfortunately, was robbed of a Best Picture win at the Oscars by Titanic (in my opinion, a drastically inferior film).
Oh well, enough reminiscing. It’s coming out on September 23rd, with what sounds like a nice package of special features.
This is an absolute must buy for me!

Bestbuy.com is holding a decent Blu-ray sale (online only I think, but just do store pickup if you want). The deal is 2 movies for $30 with ~40 movies to choose from.
I would recommend checking the reviews for anything you’re looking for as a few of those are relatively bad discs. Yes, even a Blu-ray disc can look relatively bad.
I picked up Crimson Tide and Resident Evil to round out parts of my collection…
