Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang

To celebrate the upcoming 3D re-release of the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 double feature, Disney is doing a seven part video feature with John Lasseter (here). Some of you who know me, know I love all things Pixar. John Lasseter is kind of a hero for me. He does what I wish I had been talented enough to do in life and he is unabashedly a grown kid. At the same time, he’s obviously a brilliant story teller and seems to be a truly kind hearted individual.

This first video has him explaining the new toys (which I HOPE to pick up as they look amazing) for the Toy Story series. They have a new Toy Story Collection that are supposed to be exact replicas of what the toys would really be. I’ve seen the Woody, Buzz, and Aliens and all three are VERY nicely detailed, but pricey. Still, I want to get them :) You could think from the video that he was just a shill trying to push the sale of the toys, but from everything I’ve seen, he’s being downright honest. He does seem to truly love the toys and hope people get the same enjoyment out of them.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video…

Bronchitis & New Toys

Leap Frog Click Start My First ComputerWell, unfortunately Ben has bronchitis, but he’s had some fun recently. A couple of days ago, we picked up a LeapFrog Clickstart My First Computer. He’s enjoying it, but he’s also still frustrated just as he was with a Sesame Street game on a PC. He simply doesn’t feel comfortable using the mouse and I seem to be having a hard time helping him. The mouse on this little guy isn’t the easiest to use, but other than that, it is nicely targetted at little ones. We’re still onlyusing the built-in games, but I think Dora, Cars, and such are in our future.

Dinosaur vs. BedtimeAnother item that has recently shown up is a new book. Dinosaur vs. Bedtime which has gone over really well. The book is really cute and it involves a lot of roaring.

Target has been good to me tonight…

Wizard Magazine April 2009 CoverI picked up a copy of Wizard Magazine tonight at Target that I simply couldn’t pass up. It has Obama owning the cover as our POTUS who also happens to be a comic book fan!

The cover happens to be drawn and painted by my absolute favorite comic artist, Alex Ross.

If you like his work, seriously consider picking up, Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross. It’s a great book with some truly amazing art.

I haven’t yet gotten to read any of this month’s issue, but I thought I needed this keepsake regardless of how good the issue is.

On another note, while I was in Target, I managed to grow my collection of Mighty Muggs by two new additions. This brings the grand total up to 21 (16 – Marvel, 1 – Star Wars, 1 – Indiana Jones, 1 – G.I. Joe, and now 2 – Transformers). Say hello to Soundwave & Megatron!

Operation gassy Hulk?

Hulk by Hasbro

So, I’ve seen the box up close and I believe it is coming from his knee, based on the actual image on the back of his box, but where would those of you only looking at this box top pin the origin of the noxious cloud?

Seems way to sophomoric to include a deadly “gas” cloud that may or may not eminate from Hulk’s backside…doh! I’m glad I didn’t buy this for Ben to enjoy somewhere down the road ;)

Another 2 Mighty Muggs found…

I picked up Spider-Man and Wolverine in the past couple of days, but I cannot find Iron Man anywhere. If you’ve the Iron Man Mighty Muggs in the triangle region NC, PLEASE let me know! I’m considering dropping some cash to get him from an Amazon.com seller at a pretty decent markup, but I’d rather not ;)

New Marvel Mighty Muggs coming!

I can’t wait to add these to my collection, but I still need to find the Iron Man edition from the current wave that now is sold out almost everywhere. There are a few more than this, but these are the ones I plan to pick up!

Hulk Smash! Hands

I picked up Hulk Smash! Hands for myself (and Ben when he gets older) while I waited at Target today for some medicine for Ben (he has an ear infection). If this post makes you interested, don’t buy from Amazon…that hurts as I love Amazon, but they’re overpriced given that Target/Toys R Us is selling these for $19.99. This week, Target has them for a low price of $16.99.

I do love these things as they fit little hands all the way up to big mitts like mine! They’re soft and plushy with a strap to grab on to inside so that they stay on. They also look to be much higher quality than the foam version that came out back with the Ang Lee Hulk in 2003. Oh, and the sound is pretty darn good for a speaker so small, but thankfully there is a well hidden off-switch :)

I’m sure Ben is still a bit young for them and also a bit unsure about them I think to, so for now, these are a toy for daddy that maybe Ben can grow into. If he decides he wants to put them on, I will definitely throw up a video…

Just if you’re wanting to know more, I recorded the sound effects for your listening enjoyment:

On board with the Mighty Muggs

I picked up a new toy today. A Mighty Muggs Marvel Venom figure at Target. What is a Mighty Muggs? Well, I’m glad you asked :)

I first saw these in Suncoast with a Star Wars theme. However, I never could bring myself to buy one, but then I saw the comic book themed versions at Target. I had always thought they had a cool design, but the comic book theme pushed me over the top (I have to say I am more of a comic book geek than a Star Wars geek, but I love both). They’re so … cute? I guess that’s the right word. Well, this Venom version got be to buy one.

After I walked towards the front of the store carrying it, the logo is what most caught my attention.

Seriously…who can turn down 100% recycled awesome? ;)
