The beach and going to bed

November 28, 2008

We’ve been at the beach since Wednesday and it’s been a fun trip so far. Ben is sleeping in his “McQueen” sleeping bag on top of a twin bed. He has rolled off a couple of times, but we’ve built a very thick layer of blankets and pillows to ensure he doesn’t get hurt. Below, I’ve embedded a video of me reading “If You’re Happy and You Know It” to him. He really is at a very cute age (excluding the tantrums, demands, and general fussiness ;) )…

Today at the NC Zoo

March 29, 2008

Heather, Ben, and I went to the NC Zoo for the “Wake up with the animals” member preview. The idea was to get into the zoo one hour early and go to a private viewing of the new elephant & rhino exhibit before it opens to the public. Breakfast was also being served. Well, we got there an hour late, but everything was still going on.

The high temperature today was supposed to be 58 degrees, but it seemed to be in the low 40’s and unfortunately, I had worn shorts, t-shirt, and a fuzzy pullover. Well, we were cold and went into the “African Pavilion” to see the monkeys, meerkats, etc. and it started to pour down rain. When it finally slacked off, we got out and saw a few more things and made our way in increasingly heavy rain to the fast-foodish restaurants for some lunch. We hung out here eating over-priced food for a bit. I did get to shoot some photos of Ben doing “the face” with my iPhone.

We then ran for the shuttle line to go home. Well, we stood under a cover while getting rain blown in on us for about 10+ mins waiting for the right shuttle. I was NOT happy as Ben was shivering. Well, it turns out for some reason Ben was afraid of the shuttle (loud engine?) and screamed for a bit on the way back to the parking lot. They really should have had more shuttles running given the weather, but oh well…

This wasn’t the best trip we’ve had to the zoo, but we were all together and Ben got to see some neat animals…

What a wild night…

September 23, 2007

Well, it has been an eventful night. Heather was at the gym and salon around 4:30PM and I was hanging out with Ben. We were going to meet at 5:30PM so that she could take Ben home and I could go see Resident Evil: Extinction. He was playing in his playroom and due to a mistake on my part, got into a couple of small screws. Well, I thought he had eaten a small nail that I believed had been with the screws (which I had gotten away from him). Well, I couldn’t find the nail anywhere. Interestingly, I found my iPod Shuffle which Ben had deftly hidden under the TV stand ;)

I ended up calling our emergency nurse line and they suggested a trip to the emergency room. I got Heather to meet us there and we spent the next 2 and a half hours there to find out through an x-ray that he had no nails floating around his tummy… THANK GOD! Well, at this point I was kinda worn and tense so Heather took him home and I ended up seeing RE3 after all.

Here is a pic from the ER room…

By the way, Resident Evil: Extinction was just a so-so film. I liked the first two so I enjoyed this one, but it still left way too much unresolved at the end. It felt rushed in the last third of the movie and gave no real closure except wrapping up a couple of loose-ends from the 2nd film. All in all, a C- I would guess.

Bye, Bye Wildman look

MID-WAY SNACK:

So, Ben had his very first haircut today. I was glad. Heather was a bit torn up, but kept it together :) He still has curls, just shorter hair overall. He handled it quite well, but did get a bit fussy towards the end, but never really cried. We ended up using Snip-its and I was pretty well satisfied with the job and with the environment of the place. There were lots of colors, lots of multimedia clips, and quite a number of toys for sale. All in all, a good choice.

You can see a few more photos here.

They grow up so fast…

July 7, 2007

Ben walked today and I didn’t get to see it!

Heather and Ben went to a nearby daylilly farm to pick up some flowers for the backyard while I stayed at home and worked on cleaning up our office (which had become quite a wreck). While they were there, Ben took 10 steps in a row by himself. I definitely think that is counting as walking, but I just wish I had gotten to see it :(

It was nice he picked a date like 777 to walk on… :)

[UPDATE 7/9/07] I have since gotten to see Ben take a number of steps on his own…yeah! He still is more comfortable with crawling, but I’m sure that will change in time!

Oh! The Horror!

Ben sat up for the first time today!

December 27, 2006

Ben pulled himself into a sitting position and held it for a couple of minutes today. He did scare me a bit as he decided to use one of my DVD shelves to pull himself up, but at least he did reach for the original Star Wars trilogy.

Now I just wish I had grabbed my camera :(
