I very much like these two pictures as they show the human side to one of the most amazing presidential candidates we have seen in years. The first may be him thinking, taking a moment, or praying. I don’t care which and if his personal religion means that much to you, I say … “GET A LIFE!”. It’s his choice and his faith. NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!
The second just seems to be him taking note of Michelle on the video feed from the debate. You can tell how much they care for each other. This isn’t just a marriage of convenience, but rather a caring partnership. Likely to be the best first lady period based on what I’ve seen.

While McCain suspends his campaign

I thought his web page could use this Failephant illustration.
I thought this was cute, but if you don’t know what the heck this is based on, please read about it here.
McCain suspended his campaign to help, but he’ll do anything but as he is trying to inject political gain into the emergency. I don’t know whether we should bail out the financial sector or not, but I do know McCain will NOT make the process better.

Movies.
A sad day…acting legend Paul Newman has passed away. I’ve mentioned his health a couple of times in the past as he has been fighting a battle with lung cancer.
Here is a small selection of my favorites from his huge filmography (81 credited TV shows/films as an actor):
Truly, we have lost another great Hollywood legend…
Well, the Senate has unanimously passed the PRO-IP act, “Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act” (Barack Obama, you commently disappointed me on this issue). They did strip out the clause that effectively deputized parts of the US Government to act on the behalf of the content owners. This is now going back to the House of Representatives.
Here is the e-mail that I wrote to my congressman, David Price of the 4th District of North Carolina:
Mr. Price,
As one of your constituents who is interested in protecting my rights as a citizen and the fair use rights that currently exist, I urge you to vote against the bill that the Senate has just passed, “Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act”, S.3325. It is now up to the House of Representatives to act sanely and in defense of the citizens of this country by telling corporate interests that laws that prop up a failing system and a failing business model (RIAA) are not in the public interest.
Please stand up to the corporation and say that the system needs to be fixed rather than simply passing additional penalties.
Thank you,
I doubt this will do ANY good as it is obvious that our government is completely in the pocket of corporations and cartels like the RIAA.
I picked up a Flip Mino video camera from Amazon and it was delivered today. I wasted no time capturing a quick video of Ben where he first used the word “pink” in reference to his spoon. I know there are higher quality options, but I wanted dead simple so that we could quickly grab footage of Ben doing the crazy things he does.
I was surprised how poorly the Flip’s built-in software handled the YouTube upload. The following video is my upload to YouTube of the full quality video, however, I’ve linked the version done by Flip at the end of this article. It appears they are over-compressing the video before sending to avoid the VERY long upload time I experienced (full quality video was 36.9MB). The problem is their method doesn’t get YouTube to offer the “watch in high-quality” option whereas my does.
Other than that gripe, I generally like the video camera from what little I have seen so far; natural colors, light, simple, cool USB flip-out connector. I’m sure I’ll have more to say as we use it further (Heather will likely be grabbing some footage at the beach this weekend).

UPDATE: YouTube video replaced by higher quality Vimeo video…

Personal.
My wife wrote a post about the fact that we have been together for 14 years now. It doesn’t seem that long at all, but it is true. It’s definitely been a fun & interesting ride so far that has seen us living in two states, 4 homes/apartments, multiple jobs, ups and downs, and most recently we were blessed with a son (the little badger). All of this is to say that deciding to go on our first blind date was one of the best choices I have made in my life along with asking her to marry me. Ben has made the relationship even more special, if not occassionally more … exciting (yes, he is wild
).
Here’s to another 14 years!
I happened upon the new Seth MacFarlane/Google advertising videos at YouTube last night. I noticed that they’re definitely increasing the monetization aspects of the business, but in regard to MacFarlane, this wasn’t a negative for me.
You get a 1-2 minute clip of typical MacFarlane humor sponsored by Burger King and luckily they didn’t go the stupid, stodgy advertising route, but rather asked/allowed MacFarlane to put “The King” in funny/cute situations to kick off the clip.
All in all, this kind of advertising works for me…
FAVREAU TALKS THE FUTURE OF IRON MAN
Great excerpts from an interview with Jon Favreau about Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and beyond. He really drops some interesting tidbits about where his head is and what he’s considering doing in the future. This really does just confirm for me that between Favreau on Iron Man and Nolan on the Batman series, we have the two best guys keeping things fun for those of us who love the superhero genre…

I never read Esquire, but I’ve been waiting for some time to see E-Ink used in the mass market and so far I am quite impressed. It has very similar physical properties to paper and it not washed out by sunlight as a typical LCD screen would be. I didn’t video the Ford ad on the opposite side of the cover as it didn’t seem nearly as visually impressive. I simply cannot wait to see this technology used in more ways…
Apple – Accessibility – iPod + iTunes – Vision
Spoken menus is quite a cool addition. I’m glad to see Apple is spending more time attending to universal access. This is an oft overlooked feature set that should be given solid attention. Now, it would be much more impressive if they added this functionality to more of the recent iPod/iPhone line, but one step at a time I guess…
