Dozens Detained Ahead of Convention – NYTimes.com
In MN, Massive Police Raids On Suspected Protestors – Slashdot
I really want to see someone’s ass chewed out for this. Nothing I have seen reported led to any evidence of anything illegal occurring. If they want to protest, then that is their right (however, I think it is an empty gesture that accomplishes little to nothing). If they were doing something illegal then charge them and get it going down a legal, reasonable path rather than just trying to detain them for the majority of the convention. From what is known right now, this looks like a shakedown pure and simple to avoid legal protests, but no one can say for certain until more of the facts are known. From some of the reports, it is claimed that people were detained after simply asking to see a warrant.
As a disgusted former Republican (yes, my voting registration has changed as will my vote), I can totally believe the GOP would resort to this…
Disney Previews Upcoming Platinum Blu-ray Title Plans | High-Def Digest
Disney has announced a slate of movies to build out its Platinum Blu-ray line: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, Pinocchio, and Beauty and the Beast. Also, the Pixar film Finding Nemo will be released in 2009 (it was originally to come out this fall). They didn’t announce a schedule or an order that the films will arrive, but as a whole, the group looks good.

The Pixar Blog: Michael Keaton cast in Toy Story 3
It has been revealed that Jodi Benson will be returning to voice the part of Tour Guide Barbie in Toy Story 3. In slightly more interesting news, Michael Keaton will be the voice of a Ken doll in this third installment of Toy Story. I’m sure he’ll do a good job as he was great as Chick Hicks in Cars. Unfortunately, we have to wait until 2010 to see how it all comes out…
Unfortunately, Cars 2 has lost the talent of George Carlin and Joe Ranft due to their passing. It is also believed that Paul Newman will be unable to reprise his voice work due to lung cancer. This sad news was discussed previously. This one is scheduled to come out in mid-2012.
On a side note, Ben and I began watching Toy Story for the first time and I had totally forgotten that the brand “Dinoco” shows up in both Toy Story and Cars…

Daring Fireball Linked List: Blockbuster CEO ‘Confused by This Fascination That Everybody Has With Netflix’
Oh…my…God…
You’ve got to be kidding me. The Blockbuster CEO is confused with people’s “fascination” with Netflix. He also seems to be amazed that ANYONE really wants to rent from outside of the new rentals section or anyone who desires a large library to draw from.
It is simply amazing…
ThreatDown – Killer iPhones | The Colbert Report | Comedy Central
I give you the iPhone of Stephen Colbert. He showed his beauty off while considering the revelation by Steve Jobs that the iPhone has a “kill” switch. Oh noes, who will be the first to fall victim to this sexy dangerous electronic gadget and is Steve just trying to take over the world?
BTW – what’s the light green app icon in the lower right corner? I can’t read the name and the icon doesn’t seem familiar?

AppleInsider | Inside MobileMe: Web 3 and Web client-server apps [Page 2]

Data transaction security in MobileMe’s web apps is based upon authenticated handling of JSON data exchanges between the self contained JavaScript client apps and Apple’s cloud, rather than the SSL web page encryption used by HTTPS. The only real web pages MobileMe exchanges with the server are the HTML, JavaScript, and CSS files that make up the application, which have no need for SSL encryption following the initial user authentication. This has caused some unnecessary panic among web users who have equated their browser’s SSL lock icon with web security.
Interesting bit about why the typical SSL lock doesn’t come up in MobileMe. I can buy the rationale, but it does seem like it is ripe for confusion amongst the general populous…
IESB.net – Movie News, Reviews, Interviews and More! – DC to Go the Way of Marvel and Justice League Death Confirmed
Yeah! Justice League the movie is dead for the time being. Good riddance. Unless you’re going to bring out the current stars, such as Brandon Routh and Christian Bale I think this is a doomed concept. No one wants multiple timelines of DC super heros going on in the theaters at the same time except the truest fan boys who just want to see all the heros together no matter how crappy it is.
On a more interesting note, DC may be considering going the same route as Marvel meaning that they would produce the films and then only team up with the Hollywood studios to distribute them. I think it would be an excellent plan, but only time will tell. Maybe this would have prevented the horror that was Catwoman

TapeDeck. ▸▸ The tape recorder…fast-forwarded to Mac OS X.
Interesting UI for an audio recorder, but will this visual metaphor mean anything to the younger crowd? Yes, I very well remember recording my albums and radio clips onto tapes, but does anyone who is 18-21 or younger?
I got my first CD player for Christmas in 1990 I believe. It was a very nice Sony 5-disc changer that I still have today. Built like a tank and my family believed that spending 20-30% more for vastly higher quality was worth it. I loved that player and used it for years. Now it collects dust
Nearing 20 years since I bought a cassette, so is the metaphor even worth considering now-a-days?
Disney Planning ‘Sin City,’ ‘From Dusk ‘Til Dawn’ Blu-rays for October (UPDATED) | High-Def Digest
Yes, the story also mentions From Dusk ‘Til Dawn, but that was is definitely the less interesting title to me and the October date has changed to early 2009 in the updated story. I can’t wait to see Sin City in some truly high-def goodness. Seriously, this film rocks and I own the super-duper DVD set that has the extended cuts and I would still double-dip to get this one assuming the quality is BD-50 1080p with HD or lossless audio and the previous extras intact. It is just an amazing stylistic experience, but not for the squeamish.

IESB.net – Movie News, Reviews, Interviews and More! – “HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE” MOVES TO SUMMER 2009
Unfortunately, Warner has pushed the 6th Harry Potter film back to summer 2009. I’m frustrated simply because I was really looking forward to seeing this one, but oh well, not much you can say except thank goodness they’re splitting the seventh and final book into 2 films. This satisfies fans’ desire for a longer and more epic coverage of the last book and it also satisfies Warner’s need for more money
