Donate & have a chance to dine with Obama

Heather & I just donated to Barack Obama. We had planned on giving some anyway (first for me as I typically don’t care for politicians enough to donate to their campaigns), but the Dine with Barack opportunity was too good to pass up. Not that we would win as I am sure a HUGE number of people are donating, but I would love to meet him…

If you want, go donate by 11:59PM tonight to have a chance to win!

War, Inc. limited release, then DVD & Blu-ray…

War, Inc. Theatrical Poster

This film looks pretty funny, but I usually like movies with the Cusacks in them. I would explain it, but watching the trailer would probably work better as War, Inc. has a fairly unusual plot ;) Given that this has a limited theatrical release and is then going to DVD & Blu-ray, I might pick it up on Blu-ray sight unseen as I REALLY think I may like this one. I’ll make up my mind once the reviews start coming out…

As usual, thanks to the IMP Awards for the poster

Today at the NC Zoo

Heather, Ben, and I went to the NC Zoo for the “Wake up with the animals” member preview. The idea was to get into the zoo one hour early and go to a private viewing of the new elephant & rhino exhibit before it opens to the public. Breakfast was also being served. Well, we got there an hour late, but everything was still going on.

The high temperature today was supposed to be 58 degrees, but it seemed to be in the low 40’s and unfortunately, I had worn shorts, t-shirt, and a fuzzy pullover. Well, we were cold and went into the “African Pavilion” to see the monkeys, meerkats, etc. and it started to pour down rain. When it finally slacked off, we got out and saw a few more things and made our way in increasingly heavy rain to the fast-foodish restaurants for some lunch. We hung out here eating over-priced food for a bit. I did get to shoot some photos of Ben doing “the face” with my iPhone.

We then ran for the shuttle line to go home. Well, we stood under a cover while getting rain blown in on us for about 10+ mins waiting for the right shuttle. I was NOT happy as Ben was shivering. Well, it turns out for some reason Ben was afraid of the shuttle (loud engine?) and screamed for a bit on the way back to the parking lot. They really should have had more shuttles running given the weather, but oh well…

This wasn’t the best trip we’ve had to the zoo, but we were all together and Ben got to see some neat animals…

Looks interesting. Basically allows for layout of photo content on the screen with control by multi-touch…

That hulu you do…

So, I’ve been playing around with hulu tonight. If you’re willing to watch TV or Movies from your computer, it can be pretty entertaining. The only issue is that there is advertising that can’t be skipped within each show, but it’s only one 15-30 second commercial every so often (7-10 minutes?). It really isn’t a bad tradeoff.

Here’s a sampling of content that I found to watch:

There are many other shows, but these stuck out to me as I would love to watch them, but wouldn’t likely buy the DVDs and now I don’t have to waste time on my Netflix queue…

No Pixar catalog titles on Blu-ray in 2008?

I’m now hearing that Finding Nemo which was supposed to come out later this year has been delayed until 2009. I’m sorry, but that is a bitter pill to swallow. Where are the high value catalog releases? Finding Nemo was going to be nice, but now nothing at all from Pixar’s back catalog?

Ugh!

Trialling socialthing!

Thanks to Tanner’s kindness, I now am in the socialthing! private beta. So far, I like what I see. Hopefully, they will add more services soon and the iPhone interface is shaping up to be useful. I’ll have to keep my eye on this and possible try out some of the competition as well…

That being said, it now seems I also have two invites of my own to hand out, so please, let me know if you would like one by commenting on this post…

BTW, why is it that I can know “trialling” is a word, Mac OS X’s Dictionary app & Dashboard widget can know it is a word, but the built-in Mac OS X spell check can’t? ;)

THE speech of Obama’s political career?

I haven’t spoken about this yet, but I have to say that I really did love Barack Obama’s speech regarding race and politics. He quite simply discusses race in a frank and open way that I can’t recall having heard from a politician in my lifetime. From what I’ve seen, I think the news networks are doing a horrible job covering it. Controversy and division is their life blood. How could they possibly cover it properly? All I hope is that people can see this speech without their bias or affiliations getting in the way.

THIS is why I plan to vote for Obama in the general election this year and yes, it will be his name going up against McCain’s, not anyone else’s.

I’ve posted the YouTube video below.

Karl Rove’s Apple equipment to hasten our demise?

Macenstein | Will Karl Rove’s iPhone kill us all?

I thought this was pretty darn funny. It seems Karl Rove now has an iPhone and a MacBook Air that have made him drastically more productive. Wow, that could very well be a scary thought…

This is definitely one guy the world does NOT need to be more productive! Damn it, Apple. Couldn’t you just have declined to sell to him? :)
