New iPod?

Apple has an event on October 12th. It is, in typical Apple style, very secretive especially as it is titled “One More Thing…”. There are a few different rumors; Video iPod, Power Mac/PowerBook, or simply a new iPod (non-video).

Of course there is no way to know, but my money is on a new iPod of some sort. I need…er…no, want to replace my old 3G iPod 20GB with either a nano or something even newer. I don’t have to have the 20GB, but color and size are huge feature draws to me…

Come on Apple, make my choice harder with a Video iPod :)

  1. I don’t think you’re dreaming big enough. Sure, they could do a video ipod, but ho hum, it woudn’t be that revolutionary. No, here’s what I think Steve is going to announce….

    1. A distribution agreement with the TV studios where you can, for a nominal fee, subscribe to have prime time shows delivered to your computer by way of a podcast.
    2. A video enabled airport express to let you play these TV episodes on your normal TV.
    3. Maybe, maybe, maybe, a video ipod that you can connect to a TV to play these video podcasts.

Think about it. It would be revolutionary. Steve loves to lead, not follow, and just a simple video ipod would be following. This would have the potential to redefine television as we know it! And, it would a) drive people to the iTunes Multimedia Store which would in turn b) increase sales of mp3s on the store which would c) increase sales of ipods which would d) increase other hardware sales. It would rock the world. :-)

I would definitely say you’re on to something. I do believe that any video iPod would output those videos to a TV. I also imagine Apple introducing video without a store to sell it. This is a certainty in my mind given how difficult it is for consumers to get to video and get it in to a format easily transferrable to an iPod.

I have heard some rumors about the video-enabled Airport Express as well. I think that could definitely happen as well.

The only question is how much stuff is Apple willing to release at one time :)
