Not the Cancellation

I cancelled my World of Warcraft account tonight. I just haven’t had the time to give it lately and many of my friends play a whole lot less now too. My characters are in their mid-twenties, while not very developed, they have reached a slow point and playing solo just feels like too much work right now.

I assume I will play again, but the price is too much for the little time I find to play and enjoy it…

These guys kind of sound like Depeche Mode!

That was my favorite line from Orgazmo. Heather and I just finished watching the unrated cut and I must say it was bad…no, really bad, but still funny. The title comes from Dave the Lighting Guy, played by Matt Stone, and he is referring to a nude mariachi band. I don’t think I would buy this movie unless it grows on me over time. Heather didn’t find it anywhere near as amusing as I did, but she also didn’t really like Baseketball either.

Overall, I would say this one rates about 2 out of 5.

HP to stop selling rebranded iPod

This isn’t big news at all. Honestly, I had forgotten HP still actually sold iPods, but I do find it interesting. What else are they going to sell? All the non-iPod MP3 players I have tried are horrible. Either their UI is pitiful or their integration with the computer is weak. I don’t know if they will switch to someone else, make their own, or just give up on this market altogether. My bet is on door #3.

I did enjoy this comment on Slashdot:

Don’t be so hard on them. I can totally understand HP’s position on this. Selling the iPod doesn’t fit into their current corporate strategy of offering products that absolutely nobody wants.

Seriously, outside of printers, does HP make anything decent?

Nine Inch Nails – Live: And All That Could Have Been

I thought I might post deals I find at Apple’s iTunes Music Store. Today while checking out the song ‘Only‘ by Nine Inch Nails (I just found the video on their website), I saw that they had the live album, Live: And All That Could Have Been for $5.99. I jumped at the chance to pick this up so cheap…

Take Back the Web

I have noticed quite a few people who make their way to this site use a version of Internet Explorer. They are a minority right now, but I thought I would take this moment to address the issue. I have one request for IE users:

Please Don’t

If you wonder why your PC is filled with Virii or Malware, look no further than Internet Explorer or possibly Outlook. In almost all cases these two apps contribute most to the problem. That is not to say that Windows itself is any better…It’s not, but luckily you can help yourself by switching to apps like Firefox (Web browser) or Thunderbird (Mail). It is my contention that if you try Firefox or to a lesser extent, Thunderbird, you won’t look back to Microsoft’s tools. Give the better tool a chance.

BTW, this only applies if you’re running Windows and using IE. If you are running a Mac, congratulations. Now use either Safari or Firefox and be happy…

Review: Constantine

Well, I am back at work again. I had to be up for a 1:30 AM code roll, but I just couldn’t sleep very well tonight. It has been a bad night for weather, the storm was really quite bad and the power kept flickering. This unfortunately led to interrupted sleep. Luckily I feel pretty good and have gotten some sugar and caffeine into my system. I’ll probably try and post again later this morning.

Constantine Movie Poster

3 out of 5

I did get to finish Constantine before falling asleep. I know it got a bad line from critics and the general public, but I rather enjoyed it. First off, I really enjoy biblical/end of days kind of movies. I also thoroughly enjoyed movies like, The Prophecy, The Seventh Sign, etc. Typically I don’t go in for the overly gory or the way too realistic, such as The Exorcist. It is an amazingly well made movie, but the problem is, if you hold any belief in the possibility of these type of events, the movie becomes just way too scary…

So, back to Constantine. Yes, it was very Matrix-esque. Yes, there was quite a bit of bad acting, but it was a fun movie. I enjoyed the premise of a hard-drinking, smoking, pissed off anti-hero who is trying to rid the world of enough demons to buy his way into Heaven. Hardly realistic, but fun just the same. Keanu Reeves is simply Keanu. No matter what the character is, he never blends into the story. While he plays John Constantine, you might as well be watching a chain-smoking, pissed-off Neo.

My favorite character in the whole movie is Satan. He is played by Peter Stormare. I particularly enjoyed his portrayal of Satan. There was something raw and viscious while still keeping a sarcastic, biting sense of humor.Check out this exchange between Constantine and Satan:

Constantine: How’s the family?
Satan: Family’s doin’ fine, busy, busy, busy, busy… I need a vacation.

There’s nothing amazing about the exchange, but I thought it was characteristic of their humorous banter. All in all, the movie is not amazing, but I enjoyed it enough that I think I will need to acquire it for my collection.

Dogs let loose on the Nintendo DS

Nintendo has a new game coming out next month, called Nintendogs, for the Nintendo DS. This game is just so much fluff, but I have to say it looks like fun. I would play it occasionally if I could get it cheap. Check out the screenshots for all the fun.

Konfabulator is now free and owned by Yahoo!

Konfabulator (the cross-platform desktop widget software) is now free. This is due to the fact that Yahoo! has bought the company that produced it. It sounds like their plan is to expand into Linux and cellphones at some point. I like Dashboard, but I am giving Konfabulator another look now that it is free…

Frankenstein Revealed

Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein book series continues with the newly released Book 2: City of Night. If you haven’t checked out the first title, Book 1: Prodigal Son, it is well worth the read (or the listen if you prefer audiobooks).

The story revolves around Frankenstein’s monster. The Mary Shelley classic begins the Frankenstein tale but this book series continues it in a direction I hadn’t considered. This sci-fi angle explores interesting genetic and philosophical issues. The story also tosses the reader into the depths of a true crime novel. I picked up Book 2 from Audible today. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and as soon as I finish Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince, I plan to continue my reading of this series.

‘Voltron’ morphs into movie – Yahoo! News

It looks like ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’ is coming to the big screen. I am very excited as this was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I had the toy where all five of the lions could transform and join into the giant robot. I also had a 6 or 7 foot tall poster tacked to my bedroom ceiling. In short, I loved the cartoon and was only slightly obsessed :)
