Personal.
So, I have been out of town for the past couple of days attending my Grandfather’s funeral. He died Friday night and I felt it was very important to be there. Luckily, Heather was able to go as well. We flew to Birmingham Monday night and basically just crashed.
The Visitation was early Tuesday afternoon which was followed by the funeral and graveside service. There were individuals from the Navy performing as the Honor Guard as he was a Commander in the Navy. I don’t believe I have ever seen the Honor Guard up close and I very much appreciated the recognition of his service.
Just to name a few things about my Grandfather:
- He was married to my Grandmother for 60+ years
- He served in both World War II and Korea
- He built his own home that is still standing and in amazing shape considering its age
- He took time to teach me about woodworking and electronics
This barely accounts for his life, but I never fully appreciated him nor his knowledge and experience when I was young. It wasn’t until I moved away and his health began to fail that I realized how much I valued his influence on my life. He wasn’t a saint, but in many ways I wish I were more like him. I know that I would be a better person for it…
…maybe the attempt is the best way I can show him how I truly feel as I believe he and my grandmother are watching me now…

Personal.
I really, really suck at keeping this blog up to date. What with all the amazing things that happen in my life like when I leaped over that you know and saved that thing? You remember right?
Well, all kidding aside the past week or two has been really busy and tiring. I desperately want a real vacation
I ordered my new cell phone last night. I am switching to Cingular and ordered a Motorola RAZR V3. This phone satisfies pretty much all of my requirements except one:
- Quality build design (CHECK)
- Bluetooth (CHECK)
- Synchronization with Address Book and iCal in Mac OS X (CHECK)
- Compatible with Sailing Clicker (NEGATIVE)
I am disappointed with the lack of support for Sailing Clicker, but it isn’t the end of the world. This all seems to revolve around the lack of JSR-82 support, but I hope maybe Motorola might remedy that, but I doubt it.
Oh well, you can’t have it all. The Nokia 6620 was another top choice, but I like the looks/size of the RAZR better and the Nokia seemed more likely to break due to its plastic construction. Also, the 6620 would have ended up costing me more…ugh…
Probably have more to say once I get it…
So, I got to see Sin City tonight and I did really enjoy it. Pretty much everything you have likely heard about the movie is true. I believe that many adults (please, for the love of god, do not bring children to this movie) will find it fun and simply breathtaking.
Yes, the style is amazing. I wasn’t distracted at all by the unusual look or artificial sets. I couldn’t get over how strong the style felt. It gripped me and just wouldn’t let go. I got sucked in visually.
Yes, this is a violent movie. However, the violence is stylistic and in many cases is handled in a way that makes it seem cartoonish. Pretty much none of it bothered me, but the cannibalism related scenes came somewhat close. Every time I expected the movie to go way over the top and sicken me, it pulled back a bit and handled things better than I had thought it would.
Yes, there is humor and it is spread throughout the film. Quite a few of the exchanges cause a chuckle, but this is not a laugh out loud kind of movie
I definitely recommend a viewing. However, this movie doesn’t need the theater atmosphere. I think it work really well on DVD at home and I can’t wait to own the disc and see what extras they have in store.

Movies.
Well, I was hoping to have a review of Sin City up today as I had a group together planning to see it yesterday. Unfortunately, it did not occur for a variety of reasons out of everyone’s control. Now, maybe this is a blessing in disguise as possibly more of my friends can join next weekend’s planned showing? I hope so.
I just saw on Ebert & Roeper that they both gave the movie a big thumbs. I assume this will hit their website later today. I think I will really enjoy this flick and I am so fighting the urge to just drive to the theater to see it today
This is after all my most anticipated movie of 2005. However, I really prefer to go to movies in a group as the discussion afterwards is always good and someone usually points out something that I missed.
Oh well, maybe a review will be available my next Sunday night
