I saw on Slashdot that Jef Raskin has passed away due to cancer. The man who, in large part created the first Macintosh and coined the name, was definitely a visionary…

Got to head over to some friends’ house to attend a World of Warcraft party last night. This party was mostly for our guild, Order of Eris, but we had some other WoW players show up as well. It was a great time and I had a blast putting character names to real names and faces. We also played a couple of card games that I had never heard of, Apples to Apples and Mafia, that were a lot of fun. All in all, the House of Bastardville put on another great get-together
I had a surprise birthday dinner with a bunch of my friends tonight. It was fun to get together at Outback and have a good meal.
Heather gave me “Batman – TAS, Vol. 2″ and “Superman – TAS, Vol. 1″ on DVD for my birthday. Gonna have to dig into those some this weekend.
Work has been very busy, but I have to say I really enjoy it and look forward to going in in the morning. I hope it stays this way for a very long while. There is something wonderful about truly feeling excited about work and I haven’t experienced that prior to Motricity in some time.
Oh well, time to hit the sack as I am dead tired…
I have to make this post short as I must wake up for work in less than 5 hours. But I wanted to post that I got to see the Right Turn Clydes again tonight at the Six String Cafe. I enjoyed the show and I especially enjoyed getting to hear Larry sing his blog’s namesake, Hickory Wind. Heather was able to meet me this time and catch the show as well.
I tried to take a few pics while they were setting up and tuning, but all of the pictures absolutely sucked. My hands shake somewhat naturally which makes photography difficult, but tonight it was especially bad. These two are the best of the bunch…ugh…sorry guys…
Only 5 days left till I hit 30 years of life. It doesn’t particularly bother me, but it isn’t comforting either. I know my life may well be half over, but I can’t imagine living forever…
I only hope I can make more out of the next 30 years than I did the first. I want to be able to look back and be proud of all that I have accomplished, but so far I don’t feel I have done anything all that noteworthy. Well, except for being smart enough to ask Heather to marry me
Maybe I can do some other halfway intelligent things in the coming years?
An interesting story that covers the behavior of celebrity shoppers in LA-area Apple Stores. Typical Hollywood puff piece story, but I couldn’t help reading it and passing it along
This new edition of Heat sounds like it will be the definite look at Michael Mann’s gritty, intelligent crime thriller. Any movie that can put Al Pacino and Robert De Niro sitting across from each other in a subtle, yet intense dialog-heavy scene is worth watching in my book.
The Shield is a show that goes way over the top much of the time, but it is just so entertaining that I feel I have to watch it… Best to check it out from the beginning though.
Finally, South Park is always a good bet and this season had some very funny episodes in it.
This story, that I saw mentioned on Slashdot, is simply amazing…
This man, as an autistic savant, is explaining how his thought process works. The idea that numbers to be multiplied are visualized as shapes, colors, sounds, etc. is absolutely fascinating. While he has limitations he seems to have adapted and found a life that makes him happy while also possibly helping doctors to possibly understand what makes a savant a savant.
Definitely worth a read…
Check out Google Maps…
I was amazed by the functionality offered in the beta. Much faster than other mapping sites I have tried and it combines Google Local functionality which makes it all the more useful. The developers at Google never cease to amaze me with the cool tricks they manage to make a web browser accomplish. The most significant part though is they make it simple and easy with a tasteful UI.
Today, I have resigned as a contractor at IBM and will be starting a job soon at Motricity!
This is very cool as I will be working with quite a few friends from the Oculan days and all of the new people that I have met seem very cool. I was ready for a change and when I heard that there were some QA positions open, I just had to see what might be possible…
So, I’m sure more will come up in the next week or so as I don’t know my exact start date yet, but needless to say, I am thrilled
