Neko Case

So, I finally got around to picking up my ticket for the Neko Case show in February. This should be a lot of fun. Neko Case one night and then Tift Merritt the next night (hopefully, just off her grammy win).

I really wish I had started getting in to local music earlier… :)

Mac turns 21

From MacMinute.com

Twenty-one years ago today, on January 24, 1984, Steve Jobs publicly introduced the world to the first Macintosh.

You know I love Macintosh, but I must say that the old school Macs while nice are nothing compared to what it became one OS X was introduced. The Macintosh systems of the past few years are what I truly consider a Macintosh…

DVDs for the Week of 2005.01.25

I doubt I will be buying all of these. I haven’t been buying GITS:SAC DVDs as I am unsure how much replay they would get, but it is definitely at the top my NetFlix queue. MacGyver is another show in question. I love the series and I am dying to see the first episodes again, but I am not sure I would want to own it.

I think I will ask Heather for the Batman and Superman DVDs for my birthday as there is a $100 rebate (MIR) if you buy both. Finally, we come to Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I may purchase this one if for no other reason than I love the look of the film. I have spent a good bit of time contemplating this film and I have come to the conclusion, that while it may not be a well written film, it is interesting and the style is enough for me to enjoy it. This is why I felt the movie offered so little that was memorable. I didn’t pay too much attention to the story, but instead got caught up in the stylized effects.

The iPodening

We ordered Heather’s iPod Mini last night. She decided on the green one and an armband to go with it.

The indoctrination has begun ;)

Useful MT Spam Defense Link

If you run a Movable Type blog, it is probably a good idea to read this. The link details a new plugin for MT 2.661 and 3.x which helps remove comment/trackback spammers incentive for spamming. The plugin takes all comment/trackback links and adds rel=”nofollow”. This is being supported by Google, Yahoo, and MSN to mean that their spiders will not follow the commenter’s link. Thus no influence in favor of the spammer at the search engines. It isn’t a fix, but it may help.

Right Turn Clydes

I got the opportunity to see my friends, Larry, Shane, and James (3/5 of the Right Turn Clydes) play at the Six String Cafe two nights ago. I had a great time and the music was very good. Quite a few friends were also in the audience so it was a fun night. Slowly but surely I am finding my way into Bluegrass. I doubt I will ever have the affinity for it that those guys do, but I do enjoy listening to certain bands.

Check out Larry’s site if you want to check out the music.

Update: So, that was stupid. I linked to the story at HickoryWind.org and sent a trackback ping, so now Larry has two trackbacks…ugh :)

Just an update

Not in a very good mood this morning. We had snow yesterday :( I used to love the stuff when I was a kid. Now, snow just complicates my life in annoying ways. I don’t care for winter weather, but it seems we may be getting more tonight…

Heather’s birthday was yesterday, but we didn’t really get to celebrate. We’ll go out this weekend. She is going to be getting an iPod Mini which I am thrilled with. No more burning audio CDs of our Audible.com content. Yay! :) I think the idea of having good music all the time at the gym is what pushed her over the top.

Well, no other real news on the Vinson front. There are some possible developments, but nothing to report yet. Be back in a bit with another post regarding a new band I got to hear…

More on the Mac Mini

I am seeing lots of discussion (See here and here for example) and positive comments regarding the Mac Mini. Interestingly quite a few of them seem to be coming from PC users. I don’t think this will be an avalanche of switchers, but it may be a step in the right direction. I am unsure if the Mac Mini is for me, but it is VERY tempting :)

Has Apple hit gold again?

At MacWorld Expo today, Apple released the iPod Shuffle, the Mac Mini, iLife ‘05, iWork ‘05, and Final Cut Express HD.

Not a bad selection of new products. It isn’t everything that I was hoping for (cough…PowerBook G5…cough), but it is fairly nice. I originally thought we would be buying an iPod Shuffle for Heather, but now it looks more like an iPod Mini. The Mac Mini is an amazing looking little box, but I don’t think I have a place for one yet in my home. Maybe sometime later this year. As for the software, iLife and iWork are both very likely to be on my systems soon.

Now I know how fast my heart will clog…

No seriously, Wendy’s is really trying to help their image among the healh-conscious. Check this out. Still not great for you, but having new options outside of French Fries is a great thing. My main excitement is that they spent time building an easy to use web interface that tells you exactly what the nutritional value of the meal is down to the condiments.

Anyway, if your not counting calories/fat then this probably is very dull :)

And yes, I do realize how much of a contradiction it is to read about healthy eating on this website…
