She’s gone from suck to blow

All users who have tried either Linux or Macintosh know Windows sucks and blows, but the latest virus outbreaks simply intensify my strong distaste for it. The Washington Post has an article titled “Microsoft Windows: Insecure by Design” that I think is right on the money in a simplistic way.

In first reading the title I assumed the author meant that Microsoft designed Windows to be insecure, but in reality he means it is insecure because they gave no thought to security when designing it. They have obviously made improvements over the years, but when you look at the default setup of most Linux or Mac OS X systems, the improvements seem to be nothing more than window dressing (for lack of a better term). They have no serious commitment to improving Windows’ record on security, but merely want to find new ways to lock users in to an unending upgrade cycle.

I do wish I could convince my wife that Windows is something to dread, but as long as it is used by school systems, I believe I am destined to lose this argument.

The cameras are on…

Just a quick update…

Well, TechTV has been here all day filming and they just shot a scene behind my my cube in one of the server rooms. I can’t wait to see the final footage when it hits.

Son, step away from the animal…

American Wedding – 4 stars

We checked out American Wedding last night and I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who has enjoyed either of the earlier films. I personally think this one was even funnier as it had non-stop humor and Stifler really comes into his one in this film. There are some amazingly funny scenes (more than I remember being in the first two) that have the whole theater groaning, “no”, “oh my”, etc. It’s painful in places just as it would be if a good friend had gotten into a horribly embarrassing situation.

Definitely check this out in the theater or rent it when it comes out, but I think it is best viewed with other people (friends or strangers).

Less of a Suck

So far this weekend has definitely been better than the one two weeks ago, however, there was a big downside. I have been extraordinarily slack the past two weeks, but it has been rather busy.

After waiting to get the parts from Studio RTA for my desk and starting assembly I found a couple more parts were broken/missing. At this point I decided it was time to return the desk and we finally got that done today. It is nice to have that taken care of. I think I have found a replacement desk and we are going to pick it up from Best Buy tomorrow. I think it looks nice and has an important feature; no glass to break.

I purchased a second DirecTiVo a little more than a week ago, but unfortunately the installer did not come out today as scheduled to run extra lines. They never bothered to call. Luckily they will be coming out next weekend and I have the very first appointment on Saturday and my installation charge is going to be refunded.

So, not a great weekend, but not nearly as bad, so I guess that is an improvement ;)
