Wow, What a Suck…

This past weekend has just really sucked in general (now this is a relative term as I know many people have more important problems in their life, but bear with me :)

It all started out on Saturday when I took Heather to Lucky 32 for a dinner to celebrate her new job at Enloe High School. Her meal was fine, but they kept screwing mine up. Now, I could see this if I had gotten something fancy, but a bacon cheeseburger is not hard to get right ;) So, finally they get mine out to me as it should be about the time Heather is done with her meal. They acknowledged the problems and gave me my meal free, but the experience was definitely not good. This restaurant is usually much better than this…

Next, we go to Office Max to pick up a new desk for my office that is on sale. I end up getting my new Saturn Centre at half price and feel fairly good about the purchase until I get it home. While taking out the pieces, I discover that the two top glass shelves are completely shattered and the bottom wood shelf has a big gash in it. Rather than packing the mess up and dragging it back to the store, I choose to take advantage of their offer to ship me replacement parts for free, but that will take a week :(

On Sunday, our lawnmower is acting up a bit and like an idiot I decided to take a look underneath, forgetting that when turned at a bad angle most lawnmowers will leak fuel. So, now I spill some gasoline on have to clean it up/dilute it with water and hope it doesn’t kill any grass. Luckily it was not much at all that spilled.

And to top it all off, I am having one of my fun bouts with insomnia tonight.

Oh well, maybe this next week will be better…

Move along, there’s nothing to see here

So, I definitely missed a few days. This past week has been damn tiring. Why is it when you get back from a trip, normal life just seems to be so much harder than before?

I don’t have much exciting to say right now as I am kinda in a ‘blah’ sort of mood. I am working on a new website with a discussion for my wife’s social studies classes. We have been looking into what would be needed to have copies of work available on-line with places to discuss class and world topics. This fits pretty well as she teaches a mixture of AP Government, Economics, Sociology, and World History. Hopefully that will be mostly ready within a week as school is about to start.

Hmmm, anything else going on? Can you tell I am kind of forcing this post :) I got slack about posting this past week and need to keep to it. I just wish I had a more interesting life ;)

Las Vegas Pics

I put up quite a bit of the photos I took in Las Vegas. Some are obviously better than others and many are not being put up as they just suck. This is due to two things, my cheap HP digital camera and the shakiness that I sometimes get, especially when tired. The HP’s screen doesn’t really give enough detail to tell when there is the slightest of motion blur and in some shots I took several pics to try and avoid this problem only to have it affect all of them :(

Hopefully before we go back to Vegas I can get a respectable digital camera, such as a Canon or Nikon.

As a side note, my favorite hotel as far as style, casino, comfort, etc. was the MGM Grand where we stayed. Interestingly, I don’t have a single pic of it from the outside on the HP. I do believe I snapped one with my Sanyo 8100 and will look into getting that posted soon.

MTV has a good show?

I stopped being interested in MTV quite some time ago. Somewhere during my youth they seemed to stop being innovative and move on to pure stupidity. They have had a few decent shows in the years since. The occasional Real World episode that was interesting or Sifl and Olly (which I always thought was damn funny) would come along, but nothing that seemed really well done.

Now MTV has added Spider-Man to their lineup. I watched the first two eps off I had TiVoed while gone early this morning. The show is fun to watch and I am really getting into the computer-generated art style. The scene in the first episode where they show a frat party that goes horribly wrong is a great example of the interesting visual style. The lighting and colors in that scene really caught my eye.

Well, the show has made it into a season pass for me, so we’ll see where they take this.

Hot Fun in the Summertime…

Okay, so we’re now back from Las Vegas. The vacation was wonderful, but I think we might have found a better time to go as this past week saw record high temperatures in Sin City. It seemed to range from around 112°F to around 115°F. Now luckily unlike the Southeastern United States, these high temperatures do not include much of any humidity. But extreme dry heat is just that, hot. Luckily, Heather reminded me that I needed to take my UNC cap to avoid a nasty burn (You see, I am folic-ally challenged :)

I am going to do more of a write-up on the trip along with some pictures in the coming days, but the short version is the vacation was amazing. I particularly enjoyed the two shows we took in: Cirque du Soleil’s “O” at the Bellagio and Dennis Miller at the Paris. I have heard from many people that I should go to see “O“, but I had had my doubts. They all were completely unfounded. The show was amazing, enough so that I stopped by the gift shop afterward and picked up some goodies including a mask for my home theater room and a copy of the soundtrack. I am now planning when I can see them again…

Ein is my favorite

The Movie Movie Poster

I finally got to see Cowboy Bebop: The Movie this weekend. I have always been told that the television series is great, but I had only seen parts of the edited US version on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. I really couldn’t get into it, but now I want to give it another try. I REALLY got into the movie so I am hoping the TV show will feel similar. I did watch the dubbed version, but I think I am going to buy a copy and spend a little more time going through the extras and the japanese language track. I really like ‘Ein’, but the Welsh Corgi is one of my favorite dog breeds.

Let me know if you can recommend a specific disc I should rent first for the TV eps…

Join the Griswolds…

So, I rented Vegas Vacation to help get me in the right state of mind for our own Las Vegas vacation. I just love Vacation series. Not that this was by any way one of the better films, but it is still fun. Hopefully my own trip will not be in any way like that :)

I don’t know what happened to this last week. It seems like just a blur, but for some reason I never posted. We have been helping some friends out by taking care of their dogs, Copper and Otis. They are big, lovable Labrador mixes and are just really fun. I think we’re going to take them out for a walk later and I will see if I can snap a picture.

Well, have a happy Forth of July all…
