Got a little Christmas shopping done today and had a fairly quiet day. Southpoint mall in Durham, NC (My favorite and not just because it has an Apple Store
was crowded, but not horribly so. Then rounded out the evening by going to see the Bottom Dollar Blues Band at McCann’s Harp & Fiddle in Raleigh. Definitely a good time. Unfortunately, as I am chronically running late, we didn’t get there until the last of the first set. We got to stay through almost all of the second set, but by then I was feeling really dead as I am kind of a home body and it was late for me to be out
I’m hoping to make it back to the next show there in January 2003.
On the way home we decided to hit up the Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in Raleigh, but I have one simple question to ask…
How the hell can there only be ONE Krispy Kreme in the capital city of the state where the chain is headquartered? This just blows my mind and it wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t love those sweet little balls of dough so much

Well, I am still tired as we had our viewing of LOTR: FOTR (Extended Edition) last night at work. Had it projected up on the wall quite nicely and it was quite impressive. Very nice additions to the film that made the story flow better as you miss all the wonderful descriptions that exist in the book.
Now, I just can’t wait till we get to the theater tomorrow night for the Two Towers. From all I have seen and heard, it will quite possibly be even more impressive than the previous installment. I hope that a some point, maybe Peter Jackson could go back and film the Hobbit in the same manner as I would love to see that book show up on the silver screen…
As of about 11PM yesterday, I have a working DirecTiVo. I only have 3 words:
OH MY GOD!
This thing is amazing. The interface is fun and easy to use. It looks so much more polished than the cheaper Hughes receiver that I have in the great room. I’ve set up a few season passes, but I know that I have a lot more to add as the channel data fills in (see the Extended Entry). I just wish I had gotten around to buying this sooner. I have to be at work in about 6 hours, but I just couldn’t go to sleep as I was having too much fun learning all about this shiny new toy

I am waiting for my new DirecTiVo, Hughes HDVR2, to come in that I preordered a week ago. I should have gotten into the game long before (and coincidentally probably could already have the shiny new toy), however, I was trying to “cautious” and “pragmatic”. Well, no more
I have never had a TiVo, but it seems like this will be something I grow to love. The question is how long do I wait to upgrade it? After the warranty perhaps? Wait a month? Hold on, I thought caution was being thrown to the wind…
Oh well, I guess you can’t change who you are… I am fairly sure the unit will not be upgraded until it is firmly out of warranty so I can feel safe that no defects will be missed as I cracked the case too early.

Thank God…
CP&L has finally decided that I deserve to have power restored to my home. I lost power late Wednesday night and have been freezing ever since
My power returned at 9:30-ish this morning and I feel great. Amazing how returning to normal conditions feels like a week vacation when you have been stuck in a crappy limbo-like situation.

Well, I have been trying to get in to blogging for a while, but I kept trying to do it my way. I had a sad little excuse for a home-made blog that just wasn’t cutting it. So, Larry over at Hickory Wind was telling me all about this amazing setup called Movable Type. Well, I finally decided to try it and all I can say is … Wow. This thing is really well done and I am looking forward to playing with it more.
Anyway, this is the new beginning for my site and we will see where it goes…
